Important Shipping Deadlines for the 2016 Holiday Season

It’s December 1st, 2016 which means Christmas is almost here. If you’re not nervous and anxious about meeting all of your deadlines then you’re just not doing it right. Or maybe you’re just super prepared – for this blog we are going to assume you’re not. This blog entry is geared to cover the USPS shipping deadlines to ensure you get all of your orders to your friends and family on time this year with plenty of time to spare.

The 2016 holiday shopping season came early this year and arrived in full force. Holiday shoppers are out and about this year and shopping like crazy. It’s important to know you’re not the only one that is shipping and receiving your holiday gifts this year. Unfortunately this means slight to medium delays in delivery of all deliveries.

We know how important it is to get your packages on time in order to get them wrapped and put under the tree. This blog entry holds all of the dates you’ll need to ensure you get everything on time.

Here at Sizzle City we ship all orders out the very next day from which payment is received. This ensures your package receives all the time it needs in transit to arrive on time and on schedule. Depending on what time you order we may even ship your order out the same day. Our production team and shipping department are blazing fast. You don’t need to worry about delays in our processing time of orders. Unfortunately you need to worry about the mail carriers, weather and the heavy traffic of online shoppers.

The USPS expects to deliver tons of holiday cheer this season – approx. 750 million packages! To handle this tremendous volume, the USPS is hiring more than 35,000 seasonal employees and also has expanded its Sunday delivery service, available in most major cities, including deliveries on Christmas Day in select locations. Unfortunately even with all of these preparations – it just won’t be enough. There will be delays, lost packages and missed deadlines. It’s not an easy job so we will try to go easy on them!

Believe it or not we are all connected here in the US. Although there isn’t a storm in Southern California (our shop) there may be a HUGE one in Michigan which causes delays for our customers in Florida. Yes, it’s true and it happens EVERY year!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This means the Post Office will be busy sending packages and mail pieces nationally and internationally. How can you make sure your packages reach their destination in time?

Here at Sizzle City Shop we use the United States Postal Service because their the oldest and most trusted of all of the mailing service providers. We use USPS First Class Mail as our default mailing method but expedited methods are available for an additional charge during checkout. We prefer this method as its’ the most reliable for the extremely low price you pay to ship your order.

Please know that if you would like us to use your FedEx or UPS account to mail your order this is also an option. Please feel free to complete your checkout then contact us immediately after with these instructions. We will then refund any shipping fees you’ve paid on your order if needed and apply the changes to your shipping. Yes, it’s that easy!

Complete your shopping list now. Don’t wait until the last possible moment to shop and get everything sent off. Below is just a few reasons why being prepared pays off in the long run…

  1. When you shop early you get the best of everything. Those who wait are stuck picking through the leftovers in the rubble at department stores and even online.
  2. Shipping gets more expensive the closer you get to December 24 in order to make the deadline.
  3. No time for exchanges – If you receive the wrong item or you ordered the wrong item…you’re stuck with it (until after Christmas). Nobody likes a present that comes along with a story of how it will be better once the situation has been resolved. If you order early then you still have some time to get the issue resolved BEFORE Christmas morning if a problem arises.

When it comes to holiday shipping all guarantees are unfortunately out the window. FedEx, UPS and even the Post Office can’t offer guarantees on delivery dates during the holiday season. Although they will NEVER admit this – it’s fact.  This means that even if your mailing slip says “2-Days” it may or may not make it in 2 days during Christmas. Chances are you can double your delivery times during Christmas time. Do not rely on this – send everything early and avoid this frustration all together.  Every year its’ the same slow delivery story during Christmas! Let’s not go through it again this year; get your holiday shopping/shipping done early.

Winter storms and heavy holiday shipping traffic – these two factors spell disaster during the holidays.

Your choices for avoiding these disasters are easy….

  1. Do all of your shopping at department stores this year and overpay for a quarter of the choices than you’re offered online.
  2. Complete your holiday shopping early this year and avoid the headache of delays.

Another important thing to keep in mind this holiday season is Sunday’s. Even though it’s Christmas time – the Post Office still isn’t open on Sundays. Which means that is just another day you won’t be able to receive mail.

Also, remember the Post Office will not deliver on Christmas Day either. I’m sure this is something you already knew but needed to be said for the record.
